Muslin is a plain-woven cotton with a deliberately open weave. Those tiny gaps between the threads are the whole point: air and moisture pass straight through instead of being trapped against the skin, which is why muslin feels cool and airy where a dense fabric feels stuffy. For babies — who overheat far more easily than adults — that airflow matters day and night.
It is also genuinely soft and forgiving. Muslin has a light, relaxed drape with a bit of natural give, so nothing digs in as a baby wriggles, kicks or is scooped up mid-nap. Our pieces are double-layer muslin, pre-washed so they arrive soft, sewn with flat seams and finished with child-safe dyes — no scratchy edges or heavy finishes.
The one trade-off is that muslin creases easily — that is the relaxed, lived-in look of the fabric, not a fault. A quick shake as it comes off the line settles most of it. For most parents the breathability and softness far outweigh a few soft wrinkles.
